Junior golf programs teach skills, rules and etiquette. Golf attire must be worn. No cut-off shorts, tank tops or beachwear. Shirts should be tucked in. Tennis shoes are acceptable. Golf clubs are generally provided for golfers who do not have them.
Maui Junior Golf Association
Provides instruction and competition for ages 7 to 18; runs through September. The $100 fee covers 10 lessons, trophies and snacks. Once kids become proficient in golf they are eligible for competitive play. Maui Junior Golf meets most Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. at Waiehu Golf Course. Ka‘anapali Golf Resort
Their Summer Juniors-Play-Free promotion is offered on the Ka‘anapali Kai Course: one junior golfer, age 7 to 17, can play for free during July and August if accompanied by a paying adult. A junior clinic is scheduled from July 9 to 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. each day. Call 661-3691 for pricing and further details. Reservation required.
Kahili Golf Course
Kids play free all summer with a paying adult. Clinics: Introduction to Family Golf on July 7, from 12 to 2 p.m.; free Girls Clinic on July 14, same time frame. Call 242-4653 for more information.
Kapalua Golf Club
To become a Kapalua Junior Golf member, students must attend three free clinics in a session and pass the written test. Those who do will receive a Junior Golf card entitling them to $20 greens fees at the Bay Course and Plantation Course, as well as complimentary practice balls for the rest of ‘07. Clinic sessions will be July 18 and 19, August 1 and 2, and August 15 and 16. All are held at the Kapalua Practice Facility; start time is 4 p.m. Juniors are also eligible for the Parent-Junior Outing, Junior Golf School, and Kapalua Junior Golf Championship held at the Bay Course. Makena Resort
Take Your Daughter to the Golf Course Week will be celebrated at Makena Resort from July 9 to 15. Girls ages 6 to 17 can play free after 10 a.m. with a paying adult. At press time, Makena had not set a date for its summer junior golf event. In previous years, it has hosted a two-day camp for kids. Pukalani Country Club

Waiehu Golf Course
Head Pro Art Rego teaches one-hour and half-hour clinics every Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $60 for six classes over six weeks. Beginner classes start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The municipal course has very discounted resident junior rates and hosts many junior golf events. For more call 270-7402.
Wailea Golf Resort
Wailea’s Junior Golf Clinic is scheduled for September or October (undetermined at press time). The four-week clinic will be conducted at the driving range on Wednesdays, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The $65 fee covers lessons, a shirt, scramble tournament and final-day barbeque. Wailea’s junior-golf rate, any time of day, is $85 for resort guests ages 17 and under. For a clinic update, call 875-7450.
