HALI‘IMAILE GENERAL STORE

Bev and Joe Gannon put on a Thanksgiving feast at their Upcountry restaurant that makes you feel like you walked into your best friends’ home to gather for the holidays. Tropical floral arrangements by Masako and bright Jan Kasprzycki paintings enliven the room, setting the ambience for the meal to come. Ease into this power-eating session with a sit-down first course of winter-squash soup with baby romaine salad. Entrees include tender, slow-cooked braised beef short ribs with a nippy horseradish sauce, luscious seafood lasagne and juicy, golden-brown roast turkey with pan gravy. Sides could easily be main dishes: savory herb-celery-mushroom-and-toasted-pine-nut stuffing, wild rice, chorizo, and a goat-cheese sourdough stuffing that shows off Bev’s Southwestern roots. Sweet-potato casserole with caramelized-pineapple streusel, and a salad of quinoa, bulgur, corn and dried cranberry stand at the ready with a multitude of other delicious sides, homemade biscuits and cornbread. Save room for a slice of house-baked pumpkin or pecan pie — or both!

Gannon’s in Wailea will serve Thanksgiving buffet as well, with organically raised roast turkey and chestnut-Maui-onion-sage stuffing and caramelized Brussels sprouts with butternut squash and bacon.
