18^th Annual Art of Trash Goes Virtual

Mālama Maui Nui invites you to participate in the first ever virtual presentation of the annual Art of Trash exhibition! This year’s theme is Recycle, Reinvent, Repurpose and challenges the question “what is waste?”

Gallery visitors will be able to place their votes for best-in-show and winners will be announced on our website after the exhibition’s closure.

The deadline for Gallery and Trashion Show submissions has been extended to April 10^th! Submit online at MalamaMauiNui.org.

This interactive virtual gallery will be open for one month and premiers on Earth Day (April 22^nd) via our website at MalamaMauiNui.org. Gallery visitors will be able to place their votes for best-in-show and winners will be announced on our website after the exhibition’s closure.

While sheltering at home, you might also find yourself spring-cleaning. We challenge you to make your own #ArtofTrash creation using items you might normally discard. Upload pictures of your masterpieces to social media, use the hashtag #ArtofTrash and tag us @malamamauinui and @artoftrash. Think about trash in a non-traditional sense and use it as raw material for creative inspiration instead of simply being thrown away.

To quote Charles-Antoine Vallie’res, one of Maui’s Art of Trash artists, “When I see a piece of plastic, I see a whale or a bird or a bug. There’s nothing that trash cannot evolve into.”
