Discover the vital connection between land and ocean at our Mauka to Makai Speaker Nights. Join Whale Trust and Koholā Brewery on the first Wednesday of each month as renowned experts share their insights, research, and success stories in protecting marine ecosystems, highlighting the need for conservation efforts that consider the entire ecosystem.
This month’s speaker is Robin Knox. Robin is an environmental scientist certified as a Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) in the water quality practice area. She is President and Founder of Water Quality Consulting, Inc., and has lived and worked on Maui since 2006. Robin was part of the UH Research team that investigated the impacts of the Lahaina Sewage Injection Wells on coral reefs and ocean water quality.
Robin is a nationally recognized expert in Clean Water Act National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. A lawsuit filed by EarthJustice on behalf of four Maui non-profits went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, resulting in a historic decision and issuance of the first-ever NPDES permit to regulate injection wells in a way that protects the ocean. The permit is currently available for public review and comment, and Robin will share her thoughts about that permit.
We can’t wait to see you there!
