Monsoon Maui diningMonsoon India

Rains drench India for months before giving way to crisp September days. Thankfully, the only monsoon on Maui is Monsoon India in Kihei, and now in the Wharf Cinema Center in Lahaina. Titillate your taste buds with turmeric, cardamom, coriander, and curry spiced dishes. Try the lamb biriyani, a delicious mélange of roasted tender lamb chunks, slow cooked and nestled in aromatic basmati rice accented with raisins and cashews. Koorma chicken, a coconut-infused curry specialty, is a delight. BYOB for quenching. Sunday brunch buffet; closed for lunch Monday and Tuesday.

Spago MauiSpago

With views befitting royalty, and celebrity-worthy cuisine, Spago, in the Four Seasons Resort in Wailea, sets the bar for upscale dining in paradise. The menu clearly reflects Wolfgang Puck’s affection for fusion creations, revealed in Cantonese duck and chinois lamb chops, with enthusiastic nods to local tastes with dishes such as ahi poke in cones. As a result, diners enjoy the very best of Asia and Hawaii. Finish the experience with Kaiserschmarren, a heavenly souffle-style pancake decked out with fresh strawberries; it’s Chef Puck’s signature love note to his Austrian homeland.

Teddy burgers Maui

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers

Since opening in Lahaina Gateway Center last May, Teddy’s has become West Maui’s new favorite for thick, juicy, grilled-to-order hamburgers available in three sizes and topped with myriad enhancements. Enjoyed with freshly cut fries and an old-fashioned, hand-scooped ice cream shake, this may be the only commercially prepared burger on Maui that surpasses those sizzled on your backyard grill. Teddy’s devoted staff circulates the dining room, soliciting suggestions for improvements. Most patrons are hard-pressed to come up with significant criticism for this new carnivores’ Mecca.
