White Russian . . . Martini . . . Sex on the Beach.
Surely these drinks have incited countless storied nights and legendary mornings, but did you know that some of your favorite cocktails have a few tales of their own? Discover the history behind the sip during Scandal: Dark and Stormy Underbelly of Cocktails from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15 at Westin Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Villas.
This scandalous event is just one part of the statewide Hawaiʻi Food & Wine Festival, which lands on Maui from October 14 to 16, bringing with it an impressive list of influencers from around the world. Seriously, folks, check out this talent lineup—it’s a Who’s Who of the culinary world.
The Scandal cocktail event is hosted by Jen Ackrill (director of mixology at Sky and Top of Waikiki) and Aaron Alcala-Mosley (lead mixologist at Fairmont Kea Lani’s Luana Bar). Listen as they take you through time and history to discover some of the greatest scandals in cocktail history: uncover the story of how one rum company took down a beloved New York tiki destination; navigate your way through 2014’s LIMEGATE and see how bartenders used adversity and creativity to outsmart a Mexican drug cartel and discover that you are probably making illegal Dark & Stormy’s.
That’s right, this ain’t your grandmother’s storytime.
The Hawaiʻi Food & Wine Festival will be celebrating good taste throughout the weekend—from a food-infused golf tournament to intimate wine dinners to an epicurean smorgasbord featuring thirteen chefs. Trust me, you’ll want to save room for this festival. Here’s a sample of last year’s event:
