maui ukulele lessonsFREE? Yup, completely free.

Mele Ukulele is one of the latest businesses to open its doors at The Shops at Wailea. To celebrate, the two entities are co-sponsoring ʻUkulele Mix Plate, a cultural series that combines ʻukulele music performances and a hands-on learning experience.

From 6 to 8 p.m. every first, second and fourth Wednesday of the month(and occasionally the fifth Wednesday), Mele Fong, along with her husband and bass ʻukulele player Richard Tom, will lead the Hawaiian Serenaders. The group will play a mixed bag of Hawaiian, hapa haole, pop and jazz standards.

The evening will include a chance for spectators to get in on the action! Don’t own an ʻukulele? No worries—Mele Ukulele will provide a limited number of instruments for students. You’ll learn the basics, sample a few strums, and join in some sing-alongs.

Space is limited, so be sure to sign up at the Mele Ukulele store, located on the upper level near Tommy Bahama Restaurant.

Oh, and did I mention it’s FREE?!

  1. I’ll be in Maui from December 30th until leaving on the 10th. Is there a schedule of events or when are ukulele lessons being given? I am a complete novice but want to learn…I don’t even own a uke. Thanks so much.
